Project Timeline

September 2024

We are earnestly engaged in the pre-commissioning phase. That means securing equipment, designing signage and meeting health requirements in all areas of the hospital planning and roll-out. This is also the month that we start advertising our nursing positions for the emergency unit. Thanks to Johan Winterbach for this fantastic drone photo that shows the outline of the hospital wing that’s now under construction.

July 2024

Yes, we are getting ready for that roof to be fitted. Quite a process getting the roofing ordered and constructed, and we love that our building has gentle curves that embrace the outdoor space. We are looking at landscaping and fencing. There have been multiple thefts from the site, so one of our next big steps is to improve security and access.

May 2024

The construction crew is hard at work putting the final touches on the emergency unit. And if you spotted some other work happening on the ground, it’s good news too. The investors are moving ahead with the hospital phase, where we are adding theatres and wards.

March 2024

In a joint effort with Overstrand Municipality, the Cape Ethical Organics team reviewed the final building plans that were submitted, and we received approval to go ahead with our construction timeline for Phase One. It’s exciting to be working towards a soft launch of the emergency unit before the end of 2024. Thereafter, we will commence construction of the Day Hospital in Phase Two.

February 2024

The first two months of the new year saw our construction crew getting the emergency centre walls to roof height. We also completed several checklist action items as part of final approval of the Site Development Plan (SDP).

Walls of the emergency unit of the hospital being built

December 2023

It’s good to see walls going up as we head into the builders’ holidays over the festive season. With another four more rows of bricks to be added before the construction crew takes a break, the hospital project is well on track.

Cement truck pouring the Emergency Unit floor

November 2023

The construction team has been busy with the water and sewer connections, digging trenches and laying pipes in adjacent roads to connect to the municipal service points. And the cement is being poured for the floor to the emergency unit.

September 2023

Medical practitioners and allied healthcare professionals were invited to two separate Cape-EO information sessions about Overstrand Medical Centre. The first in Gansbaai, held at the Great White House, was well attended by local GPs and other stakeholders. The second was aimed at specialists and allied professionals in Hermanus. All attendees appreciated the property development and demographic data provided, because Greater Gansbaai is clearly growing rapidly.

August 2023

Construction of the Emergency Unit is well under way. Fanie Teron, from Chianti Property Holdings, has his expert team on site and foundations are being laid. The Chianti team has already built five other hospitals, including the Hermanus Medical Village and St Stephen Cure Day Hospital in Paarl.

July 2023

On 20 July 2023, Cape-EO submitted the building plans for the emergency unit to the municipality. Further site preparations have continued, with the old helipads being relocated to make way for the foundations of the new buildings. The construction team gathered on 28 July 2023 to take official sod-turning photos for the groundbreaking at the site.

April 2023

In a key move to initiate earthworks, the Overstrand Medical Centre site development plan was submitted to the Overstrand Municipality for approval, and site clearing started the same month
